Can I book an 8-seater taxi from Faslane?

Yes. 8-seater vehicles are available as pre-booked private hire for airport runs, ferry connections, group travel and distance journeys from Faslane. Local 8-seater jobs inside the area carry a 100% private-hire uplift on the licensed-taxi tariff because 8-seaters can't be operated as licensed taxis under Argyll & Bute rules — distance 8-seater hires are quoted separately at a fixed fare.

Can I book a local taxi to or from HMNB Clyde / Faslane?

Yes. We provide pre-booked taxis to and from HMNB Clyde at Faslane for base personnel, visitors and families, as well as local rides to Helensburgh and the surrounding area. Local Faslane bookings are limited to 8 passengers under the local licence conditions.

Do you provide airport transfers from Faslane?

Yes — fixed-fare pre-booked transfers from Faslane to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Prestwick, Manchester and Heathrow airports. Flight tracking is included for inbound arrivals.

How far in advance should I book a Faslane taxi?

For local trips, a few hours' notice is usually enough. For airport transfers and long-distance journeys, 24–48 hours is ideal, and more during peak periods.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Inbound flights are monitored, so your pickup time is adjusted automatically. You won't pay for waiting time caused by airline delays.

How many passengers can travel from Faslane?

Local Faslane rides are limited to 8 passengers. Distance and cross-country hires can use executive vehicles for up to 8 passengers with full luggage space.

Do you cover day tours from Faslane?

Yes. Popular day tours from Faslane include Loch Lomond, Inveraray, Oban, Glencoe and the Argyll Secret Coast. All tours are private hire for 1–8 passengers.

Where do you pick up around HMNB Clyde Faslane?

For security reasons we cannot enter the base. Standard pickup points are the North Gate lay-by on the A814, the South Gate visitor area, the MoD police kiosk at the main gate, and Shandon Church junction. We can also pick up from Faslane Peace Camp or the Rhu roundabout — just confirm the exact meeting point at booking.

Can you collect from the Churchill Estate or Kidston Park?

Yes — Churchill Estate at Rhu, Kidston Park, Blairvadach and the Shandon foreshore are all regular pickup points for base personnel and families. Please give a house number or the nearest layby so we can pull in safely on the A814.

How long does it take you to reach Faslane from Helensburgh?

Faslane is 4–5 miles from central Helensburgh — typical drive time is 10–15 minutes. Allow an extra 10 minutes during shift-change hours (roughly 07:30 and 16:30) when the A814 gets busy near the main gate.

What's your policy on waiting time at the gate?

We include 10 minutes free waiting at the North or South Gate for security checks. If your pass or escort is delayed longer, we'll stay in the lay-by and only apply a small waiting charge after the first 10 minutes.

Do you handle draft moves and duty travel from Faslane?

Yes — pre-booked runs to airports, rail stations and other bases (Coulport, Rosyth, Portsmouth link at Glasgow Central) are a regular part of our work. Receipts suitable for MoD travel claims are provided on request.

Ways you can pay

Prepay (held) — We pre-authorise the quoted fare on your card — the money is held, not taken. Our office checks the job for any extras and approves it, and only then is the payment taken. You can pay in your own currency; the fare is settled against its GBP value. When: the estimate is held on your card the moment you book. It is only taken after our office approves the job — usually within a few hours. If the final fare is lower, you are charged the lower amount; anything extra (waiting time, extra stops) is agreed with you first. If verification fails: no money is taken and the hold is released automatically (your bank may show a pending line for a day or two). Your booking stays in place as unpaid — we email and text you a fresh secure payment link, and if it still will not go through you can switch to paying the driver or by bank transfer without losing the booking.
Card after ride — Save your card securely now — we charge the final fare when the driver marks the ride complete, then email your receipt. When: nothing is taken at booking — we only check the card is valid. The final fare is charged after the ride, once the driver marks the journey complete, and a receipt is emailed to you.If verification fails: the card is not saved and nothing is charged. Your booking is not cancelled — we contact you for another card, or you can pay the driver on the day.
Direct Debit — Set up a UK Direct Debit mandate now with your sort code and account number. The final fare is collected from your bank account after the journey — ideal for regular and account travel. Protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee. When: nothing is taken at booking. The final fare is collected from your bank account a few working days after the ride, with advance notice under the Direct Debit Guarantee. If the mandate or a collection fails: your bank rejects it and we email you. The booking stands and we will ask for another payment method — no charge is applied twice.
Bank transfer — We email you our account name, sort code and account number with a payment reference as soon as you book. The payment must be showing in our account before your journey starts — if it hasn't cleared by then, your driver will be told to collect the fare from you instead. When: you pay before the ride. We email our bank details and a reference when you book, and the money must show in our account before pickup.
Pay the driver — Nothing to pay online. Settle directly with your driver at the end of the journey — cash, the card machine in the vehicle, bank transfer, or by phone. When: at the end of the journey. Nothing is taken online — you settle the fare with the driver when you arrive.
Pay by phone — Our office will call you on the number you give us to take payment securely over the phone before pickup. When: before the ride. Our office calls you on the number you give us to take payment before your driver sets off.
On account — Already have an approved account with us? Enter your account reference and the journey is added to your invoice. When: after the ride. The journey is added to your account and settled on your normal invoice terms.

If your bank’s 3-D Secure check fails or is cancelled

Nothing is charged and any hold is released by your bank. Your booking is kept — we email and text you a new secure payment link, and if the card still will not verify you can pay the driver on the day, by bank transfer, or over the phone. We only cancel a job if you ask us to.
